In March 2023, at the Foch Hospital, the Doctor Ouerchefani conducted – under the watchful presence of RTL – the very first French long-distance programming of a neurostimulator, thanks to an innovative application which is directly connected to the neurostimulator.
That new technology allows clinicians to fine-tune the stimulation settings of the patients from a distance, and to better the monitoring and the continuity of the care for those that suffer from chronic pain – by helping them avoid having to move to get treated, which can be burdensome and repetitive.
He presented the physio-pathological mechanisms of that new technique – an introduction which was completed by a patient’s testimonial, who participated in his experiment. That technique also allows for there to be a better care given against the pain of those patients which suffer from chronic pain – it mainly concerns the around 20.000 people who already live with a neurostimulator, and the approximatively 2.500 new patients who are equipped with one each year. Chronic pain affects 10% of the adult population in France.
